Lay Speaking Classes - Titusville, September 12-13, 2008

Four classes will be offered in Titusville this September 12th and 13th at Indian River City United Methodist Church, 1355 Cheney Highway, Titusville, Fl. 32780/ Phone: 321-267-7922. IRC UMC is approximately 2.5 miles on the right (south) of SR 50 when you get off I-95 at Exit #215. The courses will be:

The Basic Course in Lay Speaking Ministries, led by James Davis
Lay Speakers Lead Prayer: Let the Whole Church Say Amen! led by Rod Groom
Lay Speakers Lead Small Groups, led by Pastor Ted Wood
Lay Speakers Teach Adults, led by Don Bolinger

Each class will meet for a total of ten hours, Friday night, 7-9 p.m., and all day Saturday, 8-5 p.m. All 10 hours are required for credit.

Eligibility: Everyone is encouraged to take a class. You do not have to be a lay speaker or become a lay speaker to take a class. These are all excellent courses for our mutual call to lay ministry within the United Methodist Church. If you are a lay speaker, you must still obtain the approval of your pastor and your charge conference each year to be either a local church lay speaker, or a certified lay speaker.

Requirements: Order and read your text prior to the September class meeting. Basic course students will be provided a text at the class meeting, if they have not obtained one in advance. Course fees are $10.00 for each course, $20.00 for the Basic Course with the text supplied. Bring a Bible, notebook and pen to the class. Basic Course and Leading Prayer students should also bring a copy of the United Methodist Book of Worship, if they own or can borrow one from their church or pastor. You may bring cash or a check or money order made out to the Atlantic Central District.

Optional course manuals are available for $5.00 to $6.00 at the same site, but are not required for class. They may be helpful if you intend to teach the class back at your local church.
