FOR LOCAL CHURCH LEADERS

FORT PIERCE (St. Lucie County):
First UMC (616 Orange Avenue, Fort Pierce, Fl. 34950, telephone: 772-464-0440) will host the Advanced Class - Living Our Beliefs: The United Methodist Way, Revised Edition, by Kenneth L. Carder, on Friday night and Saturday, April 20th and 21st, 2012. Please note this is a change in dates from the earlier advertisement for March. The text is a revised edition of Bishop Carder's book, and this class is the update for our Lay Servant Ministries course on United Methodist heritage, doctrine, theology and history. Our special Wesleyan understanding of grace will also be explained and discussed. This will be the first time this class is offered in the district.

First UMC is located approximately four miles east of I-95 on Orange Avenue. Pass the church heading east and turn left on 5th Street, and left again on Avenue A (one block). Enter the parking lot on your left and come in through the double doors under the overhang where Centennial Hall joins with the church building. We are one block west of US-1 if you come that way (take Avenue A to the parking lot).

Classes will be held from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.on Friday night and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. You must attend both days to get credit for the class. Lunch will be provided by the excellent cooks of First UMC (a love offering is suggested). The class will be taught by Rod Groom of First UMC.

Please bring $10.00 to cover the class. Checks should be made out payable to Atlantic Central District. The book to get, is Living Our Beliefs: The United Methodist Way, Revised Edition, by Kenneth L. Carder. It is available for $10.40 through www.cokesbury.com. Make sure to order the revised editon, copyright 2009 (NOT 1996). Please order and read your text prior to class.

GRANTS

In an effort to be of assistance to our District churches, especially during this time of financial stress, the Leadership Council has researched Grants that may be helpful to fund different areas of church ministry and outreach.  Some of these websites also have information on how to write a Grant.
